    FOCUS... BUT IT WASN'T ALWAYS

    ONE BULLETIN BOARD DISPLAY
    TURNED INTO AN ENTIRE HALLWAY
    FULL OF STUDENT ART," REGINA

    PRINCIPAL: "KIDS WERE JUST
    PRODUCING INCREDIBLE ART
    PIECES SO EVERY YEAR AS PART
    OF OUR FUNDRAISER WE DESIGNATE
    MORE MONEY TO BULLETIN
    BOARDS," THAT'S WHEN THE
    SCHOOL KNEW THERE WAS
    POTENTIAL TO TURN INTO AN ARTS-
    FOCUSED CAMPUS... AND PERHAPS
    JUST IN TIME. TWO BLOCKS AWAY
    A NEW CHARTER SCHOOL IS MOVING
    IN WITH ALMOST 500 POSITIONS
    OPEN FOR YOUNG STUDENTS JUST
    LIKE THOSE AT FUENTES
    ELEMENTARY. THE PRINCIPAL KNEW
    SOMETHING HAD TO BE DONE.

    TO OFFER SOMETHING THAT MAYBE
    NOBODY ELSE OFFERS," NEXT YEAR
    ALL STUDENTS WILL HAVE EXTRA
    FINE ARTS CLASSES AND THE ARTS
    WILL BE INCORPORATED IN EVERY
    SUBJECT. REGINA BUTCHER,

    "WE MAY USE MUSIC IN MATH,
    THEY MAY DO SOME HISTORIC
    REENACTMENTS IN THEIR HISTORY
    CLASSES," MORE THAN A FUN
    ENVIRONMENT - THESE CLASSES
    WILL OPEN UP BRAND NEW
    POSSIBILITIES FOR SOME. REGINA

    AT RISK OR LOW SOCIOECONOMIC.
    IT HAS A HUGE IMPACT ON THOSE
    STUDENTS BECAUSE QUITE OFTEN
    THOSE STUDENTS DON'T HAVE THE
    OPPORTUNITY TO DO THOSE SORT
    OF THINGS OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL,"

    OTHER STUDENTS WITHIN THE
    DISTRICT CAN REQUEST TO ATTEND
    FUENTES AS A TRANSFER STUDENT.
    THE DISTRICT SAYS IT WILL BE
    SENDING AN EMAIL TO ALL
    PARENTS SOON EXPLAINING THEIR
    OPTIONS.ROBERT:WE DUG INTO
    "THE COMPETITION". IDEA PUBLIC
    SCHOOLS HAS 173 SCHOOLS ACROSS
    TEXAS.THERE ARE 6 IN CENTRAL
    TEXAS, WHICH INCLUDE THE
    PFLUGERVILLE AND KYLE CAMPUSES
    UNDER CONSTRUCTION.EACH CAMPUS
    WILL SERVE JUST UNDER
    5-HUNDRED STUDENTS STARTING
    FROM KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 6TH
    GRADE.THAT WILL BRING THE
    TOTAL TO JUST OVER 3-THOUSAND
